Don Plocher started taking an interest in photography while in high school and had been interested in photography ever since.  He joined the Downers Grove Camera Club in 1966 and served as its president in 1973 and again in 2001 to 2005.   During the many years of his association with the club, he had gained a great deal of knowledge about photography from the many perspectives its members represent.

He was also a member of the Mayslake CC (former Morton Arboretum CC) and Photogenesis  CC of Naperville.  Don had received many awards at CACCA, including the Wanda Christl award for artistic achievement and photographic excellence as well as local clubs.

Don photographed 100’s of weddings and did a lot of portrait work through the years.   This was a sideline that financed his great interest in photography. He converted from film to digital imaging & was enjoying digital photography very much.  With the wide array of photographic geography he had already enjoyed, which includes travels to most of the National Parks in the U.S. and Canada, as well as the countries of Africa, New Zealand, Mexico, Russia, and Europe, the addition of digital processes in both photography and computer imaging,  combined with his film skills, made his world doubly inviting.

As a student, a pioneer, and a participant in all aspects of the photographic arena, photography became a wonderful outlet for Don.  Serving him well during his earlier years, and he always felt the best is yet to come.  Photography makes him “see” not only the big and obvious things; it also brought into greater focus the smaller things in the wonderful world we live in.

Simply put, “perspective…life as seen beyond the lens”… That’s how the club sees it…and, Don agrees.
